Rolex Middle Sea Race

The 34th edition, last year, with 99 participants flying the flags of sixteen different countries was recognized as a record entry year, yet this year sees Rolex Middle Sea Race boost up their own legend as well as global acknowledgment by drawing in an epic racing fleet of hundred and thirty yachts from twenty three diverse nations.

A record entry of hundred and thirty modern yachts as well as purpose made racing yachts from all across the world crewed by skilled seamen who are really anxious to race and ambition to capture a  606 nautical miles dispute of thrilling sailing which has been experienced by few of the fastest and largest racing monohulls in the world, including Riviera di Rimini, Open 60s, Mistress Quickly, Sagamore and Zephyrus IV with protagonists at the helm the likes of Eric Tabarly, Ted Turner, Cino Ricci, Jim Dolan, Sir Chay Blyth, Sir Francis Chichester and Herbert von Karajan, names who relish their stardom not on the Hollywood’s film premieres and award events but on the world’s mighty oceans.

The Rolex Middle Sea Race relishes global recognition as it attracted participants from Australia, Belgium, Austria, Croatia, Gibraltar, Czech Republic, Greece, Lithuania, Ireland, Monaco, Spain, Sweden, Slovenia, Turkey, the United States and Switzerland.

According to the www.facebook.com/plainsailing facebook page the year 1968, there were 8 starters and out of which there were just one Maltese. Malta, this year, would be represented by thirteen yachts and would include Artie II, a J-122, owned by Lee Satariano and co-skippered by Christian Ripard.
